Meet Gympie Saddleworld owner, Melissa Boully

A Queenslander for some time now after selling her previous saddlery and country clothing business, Melissa has been living on a beef cattle property at Tansey until recently when she and her family moved closer to Gympie.  “When the opportunity arose to buy Gympie Saddleworld I knew it was a wonderful fit for me - I am passionate about everything country and horses and have operated a similar store in the past,” Melissa said.

From a farming family, Melissa has ridden and shown horses all her life. “I have such a strong affinity with the land, it has always been a big part of my life even whilst establishing a career in the early days.

Horses are and have always been a big part of Melissa's life.  She was one of those little girls that was totally addicted to horses at a young age and never grew out of it.  She rode in her first hunt at four and by five years of age was enjoying Pony Club and Ag Shows on her Shetland pony Sputnik.   Melissa was an active part of Pony Club growing up enjoying camps and all the competitions throughout each year from ODE’s to dressage and showjumping.

After finishing school Melissa started breeding riding ponies and developed a love for the show horse. Breeding, training and showing ponies, galloways and hacks became Melissa’s major love for many years until marrying her husband who enjoyed cow horse events.

This paved the way for a blended future of riding across a variety of disciplines until Melissa discovered the Australian Stock Horse where she could enjoy it all, and sometimes at the one event.   The Australian Stock Horse Societies slogan ‘the breed for every need’ was perfect for Melissa as she could attend events and throughout the course of a weekend do dressage, show horse and cow horse classes.
